If you drew an imaginary line between The Pleasure Seekers, The Velvet Underground, Thee Headcoatees and The Modern Lovers, joining all the dots in between those musical reference points... somewhere along that line you'd probably find every record ever owned by Hinds. Suffice to say, Hinds tread little in the way of fresh turf, but then, having listened to 'Leave Me Alone', if you're left lusting after the avant garde, you're most likely missing the point of the record.

Notwithstanding the volume of obvious influences, Hinds are an all girl group clearly in love with the idea of making music for the sheer love of making music... and you can hear it in every track on their 12-song debut. Brimming with rudimentary drumming, ecstatically strummed, occasionally shimmering tremolo guitar and intoning, casually delivered vocals, the band undeniably put together hook-heavy, endearingly simple songs that deliver without pretence.

Highlights include "Castigadas En El Granero" which launches itself into joyfully fuzzy faux pop via a fantastic, dirty Link Wray guitar dirge, the quite spectacular instrumental "Solar Gap" and the slacker anthem that never was (and probably never will be) "Fat Calmed Kiddos".

Not attempting to impress with an appearance of greater importance than is necessary, Hinds have made a rough diamond of a record, but a diamond nonetheless.
