Recently I've missed a few support bands, it's not something that I'm proud of and I may be kicking myself in years to come if the said bands go on to bigger things. Thursday night was no exception, I missed Humanzi, but as I know nothing about them, I wasn't too bothered.

Whilst at the bar, a rumour spread that Weller was coming on. And he did! With no support band, the Mod Father played a short but awe inspiring 5 song set, ending with That's Entertainment and A Town Called Malice. The crowd was buzzing, and it looked like he was too, throwing a unfamiliar look our way: a SMILE!

Not many bands could come on after a legend like Weller and still pull it off! Could Dogs?

They started their set with London Bridge, one of their best songs, but with so many great songs in their back pocket, there was still plenty to look forward to! I must have seen them about a dozen times by now, but they still surprise me each time with the raw energy of their live show. Songs such as She's Got A Reason and Selfish Ways kept the front half of the audience jumping around like rabid dogs, whilst there wasn't much let up for some of the slightly slower numbers, such as Donkey and Tarred And Feathered.

We were also lucky enough to hear a few new songs, which sounded great, even though it was the first time that I had heard any of them. I'm sure that they'll become future crowd pleasers just like the whole of their debut album is.

The ULU was packed out, and there was an excitement in the air like at no other Dogs gig that I've been to before. Mr Weller had something to do with that initially, but it was Dogs infectious sounds that kept that going until the end of the gig. I walked out of the ULU thinking that Dogs had reached another level in their career, that bigger venues, such as the Astoria, would be the order of the day for future live shows. Maybe even Brixton Academy.

Could they pull it off? Of course they could! They managed to pull off a support slot by Paul Weller. Anything's possible now!
