For children of legendary pop or rock stars it is almost impossible to match the expectation that follows and the pressure that brings can be too much for many. Mollie Marriott has spent her music career in the wings, having decided that despite numerous record deal offers early-on, she would always be cast as Steve Marriott's daughter. The difference now, is that she feels she's been allowed to record the album she wants to, and not what a record company might demand. Of course, she will always be the daughter of one of the most influential British rock stars of the Sixties - but she wants to be recognised on her own terms.
So having worked as a backing singer on the likes of the Oasis album Heathen Chemistry and with her step-father Joe Brown, Mollie Marriott has taken the brave step to walk out of the shadows and take centre stage. Her debut album The Truth Is a Wolf will be released in early 2016 and A Million Miles is the first taster. It demonstrates her crafted vocal over a piano ballad about a love that is broken. It is both warm and tender with an underlying warning about falling too far in love.
Mollie Marriott says these songs are all very personal and she has felt like a parent letting go, when they are in the hands of producer Steve Orchard. It will be interesting to see how they grow and whether she can forge her own path. A MIllion Miles is the first step.
