After experiencing the demise of her former bands Laura and the Tears and Hey Laura, singer-songwriter Laura Welsh rises from the ashes with a most accomplished debut album in ‘Soft Control’ that really speaks volumes of emotion and soul.

Quoted as saying she finds it easier to put her feelings into songs as opposed to talking about them, the Staffordshire-born soul singer has created a record that is simply encapsulating and hypnotic with emotion. From the get-go, the title track and album opener brilliantly lures you into a suspenseful introduction until Welsh’s incredible Adele-like vocal talent comes into play and lifts the whole song to another level. This excellent start lays the foundations of what’s to follow – an album that you can tell this woman has poured her heart into.

Listening to the entirety of Soft Control is nothing short of a journey. From the radio hit and most memorable moment Ghosts, sing-along energy of Break The Fall, and a heartfelt collaboration with Grammy award-winning John Legend on Hardest Part, Laura Welsh acts an architect in the feeling of complete euphoria in her songwriting and will surely be at the forefront of soul-pop music in no time.

Album highlight Breathe Me In stands out in the second half of the album, incorporating plucky guitars and soft electro-beats behind Welsh’s gorgeous voice, whilst album closer Hollow Dreams pulls together a fittingly uplifting finale to a record that executes a whirlwind of soft but incredibly powerful sounds.

Soft Control is a masterpiece of an assault on the emotional senses. Laura Welsh has made a statement in the soul-pop scene with this incredible debut that showcases her vocal talent and atmospheric music superbly.
