After landing a #1 album with his Parlophone debut ‘Contrast’ and five Top 10 hits, Brighton’s pop sensation Conor Maynard has returned to his roots by spending much of 2016 posting his interpretations of modern pop classics to YouTube.
The reaction has been phenomenal, with ten of the seventeen tracks exceeding 10 million views as his subscribers shot past the 2.6 million mark – including his take on Drake’s ‘One Dance’ which has exceeded 35 million views. Now Conor has compiled a collection of his finest moments into the ‘Covers’ album project which is today released exclusively via Spotify, Apple Music and Deezer.
“It's crazy how this album has come about, the covers were just meant to be a side-thing to keep the fans happy while I was working on the second album but they just seemed to blow up,” says Conor. “Due to the fact that I got the chance to entirely produce this album, it really gives a hint as to what's coming next with my own original music as I interpreted each song into my own sound and style. I’m so thankful to everyone who enjoyed and shared these covers – this album is for them.”
‘Covers’ collates ten of the tracks which have most captured the public’s imagination from the campaign with an accumulated total of 168 million views. In addition to ‘One Dance’, other highlights include his versions of Adele’s ‘Hello’, Justin Bieber’s ‘Love Yourself’ and Rihanna’s ‘Work’.
The collection is boosted by two previously unheard covers in the shape of The Chainsmokers’ ‘Don’t Let Me Down’ and Usher’s ‘Crash’ which will be available exclusively on streaming platforms, as well as a brand new self-written song ‘This Is My Version’. Released today, ‘This Is My Version’ is a confessional ballad which fits seamlessly into an album packed full of hits.
“I'm half excited and half nervous for everyone to hear ‘This Is My Version’ - it's a song I hold extremely close to me, as it tells the story of very difficult situation I went through,” he explains. “I hope when people listen, they can hear that. I also hope that people can relate to it, and hopefully it can help people get through it if they're going through something similar.”
Currently the biggest trending UK act on YouTube and gaining an average of 1.5 million channel views each day, Conor Maynard has maintained a phenomenal online following. In addition to his music, Conor has collaborated with YouTube star Caspar Lee on a series of videos including a hilarious twist on James Corden’s Carpool Karaoke, and has also created content with other stars of the scene such as Joe Sugg and Oli White.
Conor has recently presented two special radio shows on CapitalFM alongside his brother Jack. The full tracklisting for ‘Covers’ is:
