The BPI, the record labels’ organisation which promotes British music, has announced its latest series of free training masterclasses for its members in April.
Commencing next week, from April 4th the sessions will cover a broad range of marketing, digital and social media related subjects, with a focus on advertising, streaming and YouTube.
The specific details and timings are listed below – and any member wishing to attend is asked to contact the BPI’s Director Independent Member Services & International, Chris Tams, who comments:

These sessions are proving very popular and help to provide valuable marketing insights and other promotional advice, which we hope offer lots of practical benefits to all our members.”

4th April - Advertising masterclass (half day - morning)
4th April - Streaming, campaign surgery and Video Beyond YouTube (half day - afternoon)
8th April - YouTube masterclass (half day - morning),

12th April - Streaming, Video Beyond YouTube and New Trends & Tools (half day - afternoon),
18th April - YouTube masterclass (half day afternoon).
Streaming Marketing 101: This module will be an opportunity to understand how marketers can make the most of streaming services and what key tools can be used to drive results. The session will also cover analytics and learn from the best case studies
Video Beyond YouTube: A look at platforms in other markets as well as platforms such as Periscope, Twitch, Chew and YouNow. This module will cover an overview of those platforms, look at the ins-and-outs of what tools you can use and how artists could be using them in their marketing to increase their audience reach.
Campaign Surgery: Best practices and case studies from the most interesting digital marketing campaigns and new platforms. We highlight how they were created, the results they achieved, and the key learnings. The examples will be across industry, genres, platforms, from big to modest budgets.
Future Trends: A future gazing module that will cover subjects such as blockchain, AI, virtual reality and mobility and what those technologies will mean for the music industry going forward.
YouTube Masterclass: This session will focus on how to optimise your channel and advise on what tools you should be using to make to get the most out of the platform. It will cover how monetisation works on the platform through the partner program and what you learn from the top influencers in a world to create a sustainable plan and drive viewership. Included in this session is a practical session where attendees will build an optimised channel from scratch and upload optimised videos including in-video programming.
Advertising Masterclass: As Facebook reduces your organic reach, Twitter gets inundated with everyone sharing their two cents and online placements become the new billboards – online advertising is key. This session will cover the different types of adverts available, when to use what, and how to target your audience. This masterclass will cover Facebook, Twitter and Google Adwords as well as an in-depth look at retargeting and mobile advertising and Facebook Power Editor. This session will also walk attendees through setting up an ad on Google, Facebook and Twitter in a practical session.
