Minneapolis-based Nigerian-Zimbabwean artist UCHAYE releases her debut EP WAR IS OV3R on 23 October 2026. A five-track concept record, WAR IS OV3R follows one protagonist through the aftermath of a relationship - from obsessive denial, to escape, to a hardened pursuit of power, and finally to full, electric rebirth.

Written largely in her bedroom studio and shaped through years of mentorship with producer and musician Shaun Fleming (aka Diane Coffee), the EP is UCHAYE's most complete statement yet: gritty guitars, anthemic hooks and a modern rock sound that draws on the lineage of David Bowie, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett and Lenny Kravitz, while pushing firmly into today's landscape.

UCHAYE arrives with real momentum - over 600,000 followers on TikTok and performances at some of the Twin Cities' most storied stages, including Paisley Park and the iconic First Avenue.

"WAR IS OV3R is about transformation and how the things that break us can ultimately shape who we become. The record moves through heartbreak, denial, survival, and ambition before arriving at something greater: freedom. But beyond the music, it's also a reflection of my own journey, the fear, uncertainty, and self-doubt I've had to overcome to get here. They say there are no winners in war, and I think the greatest victory is realizing you no longer have to fight yourself. By the time we reach “Live Wire,” it's no longer about surviving. It's about becoming everything you were meant to be. The war is over. Now it's time to take over"

THE STORY OF WAR IS OV3R - TRACK BY TRACK
1. Denial (Interlude) The curtain rises. A short, atmospheric opening that drops the listener straight into the emotional wreckage the EP is about to explore.

2. Denial On Denial, UCHAYE dives into the psychological aftermath of heartbreak, embodying a protagonist trapped in the first stage of grief. The song follows a character who refuses to accept the end of a relationship - possessive, manic and emotionally consumed, clinging to memories and blurring fantasy with reality. It lives in the dangerous space between heartbreak and obsession, where the desperation to be unforgettable turns love into something haunting.

3. Survive Survive continues the story of Denial, but this time the smoke has cleared. The version of someone you held onto begins to fall apart, leaving only the truth behind. Built on heavy guitars and raw emotion, Survive is the sound of breaking free, taking back control, and finding the strength to walk away from what was never meant to stay.

4. Currency If Denial was the breakdown and Survive was the escape, Currency is the transformation. The relationship is over, but its scars remain. Instead of searching for love again, the protagonist buries themselves in ambition - convinced that success, wealth and control can fill the emptiness left behind. Fuelled by distorted guitars and unapologetic confidence, Currency explores the dangerous moment when heartbreak stops hurting and starts changing who you become.

5. Live Wire The explosive final chapter. Blending blues-rock and rock & roll with modern, anthemic energy, Live Wire draws on UCHAYE's blues and guitar influences - Jimi Hendrix among them. Where the earlier songs move through heartbreak, survival and the pursuit of control, Live Wire marks complete transformation, turning everything that came before into confidence, freedom and raw energy. With the line "I won't back down, just watch me come alive," the EP closes not by simply surviving, but by coming fully alive.

ABOUT UCHAYE
UCHAYE is a Nigerian-Zimbabwean artist born in Alton, Illinois and based in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Her musical journey began at just two years old in Mommy-and-Me music classes, where her natural ear for melody quickly stood out. A Montessori education encouraged hands-on creativity through instruments, movement and sound, and by seven she was playing violin in her school orchestra - classical training that challenged her, and ultimately shaped her musical foundation.
The turning point came during the pandemic, when she returned to the guitar, began recording at home and started writing and producing original music. It was the moment her artistic identity truly took shape.

Her development has been deeply influenced by her mentorship with Shaun Fleming (aka Diane Coffee) - the musician, producer and voice actor known for his work on Tarzan, Lilo & Stitch and The Lion King, and for an acclaimed glam-rock and indie career including an NPR Tiny Desk performance. Working together in the studio multiple times a week, Fleming helped UCHAYE hone her songwriting, arranging and production, encouraging confidence in her creative instincts and an emphasis on musicianship and emotional expression over reliance on technology. The result is a sound that feels both intentional and instinctive.

UCHAYE's songwriting draws on lived experience, stories from friends' lives, films and fleeting thoughts that grow into vivid musical worlds - balancing stream-of-consciousness with careful restraint, and trusting that simplicity can carry profound emotional weight. Her listening spans classical, jazz, bossa nova, afrobeat, afro-jazz, rock, pop and house, and she studies timeless music to understand harmony, arrangement and storytelling. Today, she is focused on a modern rock sound rooted in the 1980s - influenced by David Bowie, Paul McCartney, The Police, Bruce Springsteen, Joan Jett, Lenny Kravitz and Toto.

Most of her music is written in her bedroom studio, where melodies form constantly - sometimes from the cadence of a conversation, sometimes from a single guitar phrase or a lyric saved in her phone. Beyond the studio, she has built a rapidly growing audience of over 600,000 TikTok followers and has performed at notable Twin Cities venues and festivals, including Paisley Park and First Avenue.
