National Album Day has recorded one of its most impactful years to date following its ninth annual celebration on Saturday, October 17. Jointly organized by the BPI and ERA, this year’s theme honored music Icons, driving a major boost in physical music sales and digital engagement across the UK.

Data from the Official Charts reveals that vinyl LP sales jumped 56% over the event weekend compared to the previous week, marking a 25% increase year-on-year. Official National Album Day releases dominated the charts, occupying 47 of the Top 100 Official Vinyl Albums Chart and accounting for one in every six vinyl LPs sold nationwide.

Leading titles in the midweek charts included reissue pressings of Tears For Fears’ Seeds of Love, Michael Jackson’s Invincible, Pink Floyd’s Meddle, and George Michael’s Listen Without Prejudice Vol 1. The campaign also featured high-profile releases including the first-ever vinyl reissue of Robbie Williams’ Sing When You’re Winning, a clear vinyl edition of PinkPantheress’ To Hell With It, and Max Richter’s latest work, While the Flood Rages.

This year's ambassador lineup featured official Album Champions Robbie Williams, Melanie C, PinkPantheress, Max Richter, and The Damned. The event achieved broad media reach, generating over 200 press articles, 600 broadcast mentions, and 5.6 million social media engagements—a 35% increase on last year’s social metrics.

BBC Radio 2 and BBC Sounds anchored the broadcast coverage with dedicated programming, including the ERAS: Spice Girls podcast, presenter-led album picks, and a cross-promotional tie-in with BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing. Hundreds of independent record shops, high-street chains, and streaming services joined the campaign with exclusive displays, events, and curated playlists.
