John Goldrust’s groundbreaking album ‘Like A Phoenix’ - An odyssey of love’s journey through time

John Goldrust, a pre-eminent Songwriter and Producer from Oxford, UK is unleashing ‘Like A Phoenix’ this Autumn - the first Album to be released since his cutting edge EP ‘Travellers In Timing’, being double-dropped alongside its partner release ‘The Blue Album’ in early October of 2026.
The album ‘Like A Phoenix’, A.K.A ‘Songs Of Experience’, represents Goldrust’s quest to attain the meaning of life, while on the path of a struggling Independent Artist seeking a record deal.
Recorded and produced in the Goldrust recording studios over a 10 year period, most of the songs were written during that time, documenting the loves, losses, relationships and further explorations on this troubled and rocky journey.
The songs on the album explore what it means to be human, living and seeking to thrive through the hardships & challenges of the modern world.
The songs explore such themes as ‘The battle Of Good Versus Evil’, the search for the modern day equivalent of the ‘Holy Grail’, the meaning and experience of relationships, of spiritual awakening and of personal emancipation.
The Mastering process alone took 6 weeks of constant collaboration with one of the UK’s top Mastering Engineers – a careful balancing act between the innovative organic recording, production and mixing methods used by Goldrust and the ever increasing standards demanded by an ever more synthetic music being put out by the Industry, with its robotically manufactured and inhuman, soulless perfections.
The partner album ‘The Blue Album’ A.K.A ‘Songs Of Innocence’, is due for release in October at the same time, representing the 10 year period before work started on ‘Like A Phoenix’ and presenting the Singer-Songwriter Live performances of John Goldrust, officially released now for the first time.
When listened to together, the expectation is that these albums offer a vehicle with which to travel to a place where time itself is transcended, opening the door to a timeless reality.
Biography History books about the British Music Scene have yet to record the antics of the ‘underground musician’ John Goldrust:
“I prefer to think of myself instead as an ‘Underworld Magician’, because while the major labels have been scrambling to anticipate the next major wildfire on the UK Music Scene, I’ve been the guy armed with just a Zippo lighter, starting a lot of these things off – The Prodigy’s song ‘Firestarter’ could have been written about me!”
While Independent Bands & Artists can be talent scouted from any town or city in the UK, musical movements in Indie Rock Music, Electronic Dance and Reggae are harder to explain or anticipate.
Embedded within the Oxford music scene & operating primarily outside of London, Goldrust has been busy as a bee over the years, cross pollinating the Oxford, Bristol, Manchester, Edinburgh & Brighton music scenes, while actively forming bands, close collaborations, writing Songs & performing Solo.
“A large part of my energies have been focused on the Oxford music scene, having sewn the seeds for several projects that have each grown and lasted more than 20 years, though strangely I rarely get credit for these on paper”.
Apart from these collaborations that suddenly take on a different direction but with the same momentum, a key factor has been Goldrust’s challenging quest to record a high quality Demo of his own:
“I have recorded numerous Demos of my songs in Hi-Tech music shops & professional recording studios around the country & these get played to hundreds of aspiring musicians in the local area over the course of several months or longer, in order for the businesses themselves to demo their own musical products and services, while I remain empty-handed and left still seeking to record a decent demo I am able to use for promoting my own project as a performance Artist - at least that’s what kept happening in my early years. It basically all comes down to a re-direction of creative energy and momentum”.
Eventually Goldrust decided he would need to produce his songs independently & has spent the last 10 years refining his recording and production skills, while also recording his latest album ‘Like A Phoenix’, due for release on the 2nd of October 2026.
“I also recorded an album in the 10 year period prior to that, ‘The Blue Album’, featuring some of my solo singer-songwriter live performances, which at the time were never officially released, partly due to my personal trials and challenges over that period, so I am scheduled to double-drop both albums in early October”.
