Zack Gibson launches uplifting debut single “Figure It Out”

Scottish newcomer Zack Gibson is already making noise far beyond his 17 years. The Dundee singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has just dropped his debut single “Figure It Out” - out now on all streaming platforms - introducing a sound that blends heartfelt storytelling with clean, melodic, instantly memorable songwriting.
Raised in Broughty Ferry and writing on both guitar and piano, Zack’s talent was first spotted by The View’s Kyle Falconer, who later brought him to Spain to co-write and record with producer Andy Gannon. Since then, Zack has earned support slots with Falconer and Cammy Barnes, performed internationally at MiCannes, and continues to build a reputation for emotionally honest live performances across Scotland.
Now signed to Riverman Bangkok Management (the guys who manage rock legends Placebo!) - Zack steps into his breakout moment with “Figure It Out” - a vibrant, uplifting debut about choosing your own path and rising above life’s knocks.
Music News sat down with Zack to talk early beginnings, big moments, and what comes next...
Tell us about your debut single, “Figure It Out.” My debut single, “Figure It Out,” is about not letting anyone or anything get in the way of what you want to do, even when things feel at their hardest. I think it’s a song a lot of people will be able to relate to and see themselves in.
What’s the first moment you remember thinking, “Music is what I want to do”? It was when I was at Kyle Falconer’s songwriting camp in Spain. Kyle and I wrote and performed a song together, and it just felt amazing being up there with him. That was the moment I knew this was what I wanted to do.
Who were the artists you grew up listening to at home, and how have they shaped your sound today? I grew up listening to artists like Oasis, Take That and Kyle Falconer. Kyle has probably had the most obvious influence on my sound, but Oasis and Take That were the artists who really made me fall in love with music—especially hearing Definitely Maybe for the first time.
What’s your favourite part of writing-the chords, the lyrics or the moment a song finally clicks? My favourite part is when the song is finally finished and you can sit back and listen to the whole thing. To be honest, that’s probably one of the only enjoyable parts of songwriting!
What’s one thing people would be surprised to learn about you outside of music? People might be surprised to learn that I was an extra in a film called Schemers, which was released in 2019.
Which gig or performance so far has meant the most to you, and why? Playing The Live House a few weeks ago has meant the most to me so far. It was the biggest stage and crowd I’ve played to, and it felt unreal being able to showcase the songs I’ve worked so hard on.
What’s your go-to way to unwind when you’re not writing or playing? I usually chill with my mates or go to the football to watch my team, Dundee United.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given since starting your music journey? The best advice came from my grandad, who always said, “Fail to prepare, prepare to fail.” I think about that all the time, especially on the day of a gig. It reminds me to make sure everything is ready so I can go out and put on the best show possible.
If you could collaborate with any artist-Scottish or international-who would you choose and why? I’d choose Lewis Capaldi because I love his style of music, and he also seems really funny and likeable. I think it would be brilliant to work with him.
What’s one thing you hope people feel when they listen to your music for the first time? I hope my music makes people feel good. I want to make people happy through my songs because, for me, that’s what music is all about.
