EGOT-winning artist John Legend has announced his upcoming studio album, Muse, set for release on 23 October 2026 via Republic Records.
The 16-track project is produced in full and co-written by Grammy Award-winning musician and Louis Vuitton menswear Creative Director Pharrell Williams, marking the duo's first full-length collaborative album in over two decades of friendship.
Alongside the album announcement, Legend released the lead single "Daylight," following a live performance during CBS's America's Tailgate broadcast.
Muse represents a stylistic shift for Legend, moving away from his signature piano-driven ballads toward a cinematic sound that fuses gospel, classic soul, doo-wop, Afrobeat, and hip-hop. The collaboration originated after Legend appeared on Clipse's album Let God Sort 'Em Out, which was produced by Williams. The pair subsequently convened in Paris in January 2025 to write and record at Williams's studio inside Louis Vuitton headquarters.
"I think my repertoire has always been very diverse, but the piano-driven ballads have gotten the most traction throughout my career," Legend said. "I wanted to shake up the formula and do something fresh and new. Pharrell’s idea from the beginning was that we would create something with all of these classic, cinematic elements, this Black James Bond aesthetic, but with a modern backbeat at its foundation."
The tracklist includes the title track "Muse," "Her," "Get Back," "Are You OK?," and "Bodies on the Floor," which features hip-hop duo Clipse. The album also features guest appearances from Williams across multiple tracks.
Beyond his musical release, Legend is preparing his first original score for the stage with Imitation of Life, a new musical debuting at The Shed in November, featuring a book by Lynn Nottage and direction by Whitney White.
Muse is currently available for physical and digital pre-orders via Republic Records, with lead single "Daylight" out now on all major streaming services.
