Lamplight Concerts will transform the 400-year-old St Paul’s Church in Covent Garden, known as the Actors’ Church, into a custom light installation and live music event across four nights this October.
Part concert and part immersive art installation, the event features a setting designed by Neil Darcy of The Prop Making Company alongside Offie-nominated lighting designer Peter Small. The performance space will be filled with one-of-a-kind colourful lamps and dynamic lighting landscapes to complement a live one-hour musical set.
At the center of the production is Duo Atlantis, featuring mezzo-soprano Rachel Payne and pianist Jack Tyndale-Biscoe. Formed in 2024 at the Royal College of Music, the duo has performed art song programs across international venues including Carnegie Hall, Vienna's Musikverein, Paris's Salle Cortot, and Prague's Rudolfinum.
"I wanted to invite people into my musical and figurative home. I wanted to build a world that felt alive and vibrant," explained Rachel Payne, mezzo-soprano and Artistic Director of Lamplight Concerts. "So much of how we listen now happens in isolation. Lamplight is the opposite: a room full of colourful and dynamic light, with voice and piano, raw and earnest. Nothing between you and the music."
Pianist Jack Tyndale-Biscoe added: "Art song is our Atlantis, a whole lost world of music worth rediscovering. To bring it into a space like the Actors' Church, by lamplight, for an audience close enough to hear every breath, is exactly the kind of live, human experience we set out to make."
The duo's debut studio album, recorded at Abbey Road Studios and featuring selections from Elgar’s Sea Pictures, is set for release in 2027.
Lamplight Concerts will take place on 2, 8, 14 (relaxed performance), and 22 October 2026 at 7:00 PM at St Paul's Church on Bedford Street, London. Tickets are priced at £20 for general admission and £10 for concessions, with direct bookings open through the official Actors' Church box office.
