Spice Girls icon and solo artist Melanie C has been announced as an official Album Champion for National Album Day 2026. The ninth edition of the annual event takes place on Saturday 17th October 2026, celebrating the theme of "Icons".

Melanie C joins previously announced Album Champions PinkPantheress and composer Max Richter CBE as an ambassador for the campaign. Having sold over 100 million records worldwide as part of the Spice Girls and released nine solo studio albums since her 1999 debut Northern Star, Melanie C aligns naturally with this year's focus on iconic artists. Following her latest release Sweat in May, which secured a top three placing on the Official Albums Chart, she embarks on a headline world tour this month.

Speaking on her appointment as Album Champion, Melanie C said: "I’ve always loved albums because they tell a story. They’re a chance for an artist to take you on a journey, to share different sides of themselves and create something that’s bigger than just a collection of songs. Some of my favourite musical memories come from listening to an album from start to finish, and I still love discovering new records in that way today."

Organised jointly by the BPI and ERA in association with BBC Radio 2, National Album Day aims to promote the cultural significance of the full-length album format to music fans across generations. The "Icons" theme pays tribute to artists who have shaped popular culture and inspired future generations through landmark bodies of work, following previous themes such as Rock, The Nineties, and Debut Albums.

National Album Day 2026 is supported by industry partners including Cherry Red, DP World, Official Charts, PPL, Proper Music, and Trapeze. The campaign will feature exclusive vinyl reissues, classic album listening events, and in-store record shop promotions leading up to the main event on 17th October. Additional Album Champions and exclusive product releases will be announced in the coming weeks.
