Broadcaster Trevor Nelson has confirmed his return to the airwaves across BBC Radio 2 and BBC Radio 1Xtra, beginning on Monday 7 September 2026.
The DJ will return to his 2pm to 4pm afternoon slot on Radio 2, followed by his return to BBC Radio 1Xtra on Sunday 13 September at 11am. The announcement comes after Nelson took a temporary break from his broadcasting duties in June 2026. Last month, he shared via Instagram that he had undergone surgery for a brain tumour and was recovering well.
Speaking on his return, Nelson said: "I will be slowly easing my way back on to the airwaves from Monday on Radio 2 and next Sunday on 1Xtra. I look forward to being with you all then."
The news was officially revealed during an on-air trailer on Sara Cox’s Radio 2 show this morning, where Nelson made a surprise appearance, saying: "It’s been a minute, I know… but over the next few weeks I’m getting back to where I belong... In the Radio 2 studio, behind the microphone and spinning some records! It’s so good to be home."
Nelson will make a phased, staggered return to his Radio 2 schedule over the coming weeks. He will host two days during his first week back, presenting on Monday 7th and Wednesday 9th September. The following week, he will host three shows on Monday 14th, Wednesday 16th, and Friday 18th September. His schedule will increase to four days the week after, before resuming his full-time broadcasting duties from Monday 28 September.
During the phased transition, regular stand-in presenters will cover the remaining weekday slots. DJ Spoony will dep on Tuesday 8th and Friday 11th September, while Clara Amfo will present on Thursday 10th, Tuesday 15th, Thursday 17th, and Wednesday 23rd September.
