Simple Minds have announced their brand new studio album, Sacrosanct, scheduled for release on 29 January 2027 via BMG. The announcement is led by the launch of the lead single 'Beginner Boys', which is out today.
Following 2022's Top 5 release Direction Of The Heart, the eight-track album captures founding duo Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill drawing inspiration from their art rock and new wave roots. The new single 'Beginner Boys' was inspired by Kerr watching his twin grandsons grow up, exploring themes of strength, tenderness, and courage. Elsewhere, the album features the Magazine-inspired opener 'Elysium', the life-affirming 'Jerusalem (State of Mind)', and 'Our Secrets Are The Same', which reflects on Kerr and Burchill's lifelong friendship.
Speaking on the record's title, Jim Kerr stated, "We called the album Sacrosanct because after a lifetime of doing this — nearly fifty years of writing songs together — it’s stopped feeling like a career and started feeling like something closer to faith. Calling the record Sacrosanct isn’t an exaggeration. It’s just honest."
The album artwork features a steel reimagining of the band's logo created in collaboration with Glasgow-born sculptor Andy Scott OBE, best known for creating The Kelpies. To support the release, Simple Minds will headline BBC Radio 2 in the Park at City Park in Stirling on Sunday 13 September, before performing at California's Darker Waves Festival in November.
The band will then launch their extensive 2027 V Tour across Australia, New Zealand, Europe, and the UK, featuring special guest Gary Numan on selected dates. UK album pre-orders placed by Tuesday 8th September unlock presale ticket access, ahead of general sale on 11th September.
