The BBC is set to honor four decades of songwriting excellence from Paul Heaton with a dedicated evening of television programming on BBC Two this Saturday, August 8, 2026. Paul Heaton Night celebrates one of Britain’s most successful songwriters, boasting five number-one albums and over 15 million record sales across a career spanning The Housemartins, The Beautiful South, his duo work with Jacqui Abbott, and his solo material.
The special lineup kicks off at 8:35 PM with Paul Heaton At The BBC, a new documentary tracking his television journey from his early days with The Housemartins through classic performances with The Beautiful South and into his solo career. That is followed at 10:10 PM by Paul Heaton Live At Bramall Lane, an in-concert film documenting his triumphant stadium show in his hometown of Sheffield.
The tribute continues at 11:35 PM with The Housemartins in London 0 Hull 4, a documentary examining his first group, which also featured Norman Cook. The evening concludes at 12:20 AM with Top Of The Pops – The Beautiful South, a collection of the group's classic studio performances.
The television showcase highlights a landmark career that earned Heaton an Ivor Novello Award in 2022. First finding success with The Housemartins in the 1980s, Heaton formed The Beautiful South in 1988, releasing ten hit albums before embarking on solo projects and a hugely successful multi-album partnership with Jacqui Abbott.
Paul Heaton will follow the broadcast celebration with the release of his 23rd album, Jenius, on August 21, 2026. The songwriter will support the new release with a major UK arena tour scheduled throughout October and November.
