Fcukers have taken the lead in the newly unveiled nominations for the 2026 Independent Music Awards, securing three major nods following a sensational breakthrough year. The New York electronic group's critically acclaimed debut album, Ö, released on Ninja Tune, has earned them nominations for Best Independent Album, Best Independent Track, and Independent Breakthrough, highlighting their rapid ascent within the industry.
Organized by the Association of Independent Music (AIM), the annual awards celebrate the exceptional artists, labels, and releases shaping the future of the independent music landscape. This year's field showcases an incredible breadth of talent, bridging established global icons with the next generation of creative pioneers. Among the prominent names recognized is pop icon Robyn, whose celebrated return with her first album in eight years, Sexistential, earned her spots in both the Best Independent Album and Best Independent Track categories, alongside a Best Independent Remix nod for Arca’s unique take on the title track.
A host of diverse acts also achieved double nominations across the shortlist. These include neo-soul singer Jalen Ngonda, producer Jim Legxacy, R&B star Jorja Smith, alternative rock duo Nova Twins, and electronic pop artist Romy. Other notable nominees driving the sector forward include indie rock outfit Geese, Belfast dance duo BICEP, singer-songwriter Mitski, and genre-bending funk visionary Thundercat.
The shortlist also shines a light on the powerhouse independent label community behind the music. Young leads the collective field with five nominations, closely followed by XL Recordings and Ninja Tune with four apiece. Gee Davy, CEO of AIM, expressed immense pride in the shortlist, stating that the array of genres and talent on display demonstrates that the independent music sector remains the most exciting, authentic, and groundbreaking corner of the industry.
The highly anticipated winners will be revealed during a fresh, revamped ceremony at London's Roundhouse on 22 September 2026. Ahead of the main event, music fans can also cast their votes online for the public-nominated Best Independent Record Store and Best Live Performer categories.
