Grammy-winning guitar duo Rodrigo y Gabriela have pulled back the curtain on their creative process with a new behind-the-scenes studio video. The intimate footage captures the virtuoso musicians recording "Monster," the lead single from their highly anticipated forthcoming album, OurHome, which is set for release on September 18 via ATO Records.
Filmed at NK Sound Tokyo, the video documents a pivotal moment for Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero. After a challenging period of creative uncertainty and frustration, the Mexico City-bred duo returned to Japan, a country that has profoundly shaped their personal and artistic lives over the last two decades. The sessions mark a deliberate return to the fluid, acoustic instrumentation that defined their early career, moving away from the electric-guitar-heavy textures of 2023’s In Between Thoughts…A New World.
The single itself explores the complex, tangled contradictions of the human psyche. It was directly inspired by the seminal psychological thriller manga Monster, created by legendary artist Naoki Urasawa. In a striking cross-cultural collaboration, Urasawa—who has sold over 140 million copies of his work globally—discovered he was a mutual admirer of the band. This connection led to Urasawa illustrating and directing the official animated music video for the track, bringing the creative partnership full circle.
The broader album reflects themes of migration, nature, and personal transformation, featuring high-profile guest contributions from former Megadeth guitarist Marty Friedman and Japanese jazz pianist Hiromi. The record was mixed by five-time Grammy winner Dave Sardy and mastered by Stephen Marcussen.
To celebrate the launch of OurHome, Rodrigo y Gabriela will embark on an extensive North American headline tour starting September 30 in Dallas, with major stops including Austin City Limits and New York’s Bowery Ballroom. The duo will subsequently bring their energetic live show across Ireland, the United Kingdom, and mainland Europe in the spring of 2027.
