The BBC Proms has unveiled new details for its 2026 season, which runs from Friday, 17 July until Saturday, 12 September. This year's programming places a strong emphasis on cross-genre collaborations, bringing prominent voices from the worlds of rock, indie, and alternative music into the orchestral spotlight at the Royal Albert Hall and regional venues across the United Kingdom.

A major highlight of the opening weekend is the festival's first-ever Prog Rock Prom on July 18. Curated in collaboration with the BBC Concert Orchestra and conductor Robert Ames, the event features legendary Emerson, Lake & Palmer drummer Carl Palmer alongside Van der Graaf Generator founder Peter Hammill. The symphonic rock tribute will also feature guest vocal appearances from Elbow frontman Guy Garvey, Super Furry Animals singer Gruff Rhys, and indie-folk artist Jane Weaver.

The festival's contemporary offerings continue with a late-night symphonic performance on September 8 by American singer-songwriter Weyes Blood, who will perform transcendent folk-pop arrangements alongside conductor Jules Buckley. Regional programming also expands significantly this summer, with folk pioneers The Unthanks headlining the inaugural Middlesbrough Prom on July 23 alongside Mercury Prize winners English Teacher and Radiohead drummer Philip Selway. Meanwhile, indie-rock vocalist Nadine Shah will take over Gateshead's Glasshouse on July 24 for a career-spanning orchestral retrospective.

Hannah Donat, Director of Artistic Planning for the BBC Proms, emphasized that the festival remains a celebration of orchestral versatility and accessibility. Donat noted that the eclectic lineup aims to showcase the orchestra's direct relevance to all musical genres, inviting traditional classical enthusiasts and new audiences alike to experience something unexpected.

In line with the BBC's extensive broadcasting commitments, every single Prom will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 3 and BBC Sounds. Additionally, BBC Radio 2 will host a dedicated week of five specially selected concerts starting August 17, while BBC Radio 6 Music is scheduled to broadcast the full Prog Rock itinerary. While seated tickets for 12 major performance dates sold out immediately during general booking, the festival will continue its historic tradition of releasing 1,000 daily standing "Promming" tickets priced at eight pounds on the morning of each concert.
