Tibo Step, the artist alias for the Geneva-born, London-based composer and producer Thibaut Stepczynski, shares his new single Slowdive, out 21 May 2026 through Bagheera Records, an independent London label.
Described as crafting "songs that feel both luminous and melancholic," with intimate vocals and layered synth textures, Tibo Step turns that sensibility fully inward on Slowdive. A nocturnal trip-hop track built around heavily modulated guitars and vintage 90s synthesizer module experimentation, it captures the specific ache of almost having everything you want, wandering London at 3am with longing that has nowhere to go.
The track explores the hollowness of feeling disconnected while surrounded by people, and the quiet urgency of finding your way back. Lyrically spare and emotionally direct, it is a song about stillness as survival. That idea extends into the production itself: chorused guitars were captured at multiple positions around the amp within the room, then woven together with field recordings to create an environment rather than just a mix. The result sits naturally alongside Dijon, James K, a.s.o, and Mk.gee.
A Guildhall School of Music graduate trained under Lionel Loueke and Wolfgang Muthspiel at the JazzCampus in Basel, Tibo Step has quietly built one of the more interesting profiles in London's independent underground. His Shadows EP, co-written with Hana Amaya (Roundhouse Resident Artist, London Jazz Festival), arrived in January 2026, and a track from the project is set to feature on Future Bubblers 9.0 from Gilles Peterson's Brownswood Recordings. He is also a live member of Lavender, whose album was named BBC Album of the Year 2025, and recently opened for Puma Blue at DOCKS in Switzerland.
A prolific collaborator across the London and Barcelona scenes, Tibo Step is also currently producing August Charles' upcoming EP and works as a producer for Casa Nueve, the Barcelona label home to Salpa.
Slowdive follows previous support from BBC Radio and Wordplay Mag, and sits alongside an official Apple Music playlist placement on New in Alternative.
