Leeds quartet Yard Act have officially detailed their third studio album, titled You’re Gonna Need A Little Music, scheduled for release on July 17 via Island Records. To celebrate the announcement, the band has released the record’s first single, "Redeemer," which is currently available for streaming.
Recorded between Leeds and Los Angeles, the album marks a significant shift in the band's production style. For the first time, Yard Act worked together as a live band in the same room rather than relying on the "laptop" recording methods used for their previous Mercury Prize-nominated debut, The Overload, and its Top 5 follow-up, Where’s My Utopia?. Collaborating with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen—noted for his work with Beck and St. Vincent—the band enjoyed an uninterrupted five-month creative period that yielded nearly 50 songs.
Frontman James Smith describes this new process as a feeling of "freedom," resulting in a record that is simultaneously their most collaborative and dynamic work while exploring some of their darkest and most cynical lyrical themes to date.
Following the album's release, the band will embark on a relentless global touring schedule. After performing at major European festivals in June and completing a North American run in August, the band will return to the UK for a massive headline tour throughout November.
New UK dates have been added across major cities, including Newcastle, Glasgow, Sheffield, and Bristol, culminating in a performance at London’s O2 Academy Brixton on November 26.
Fans who pre-order You’re Gonna Need A Little Music by midnight on Tuesday, May 12, will receive exclusive first access to tickets for the newly announced UK shows. The pre-sale will begin at 10:00 am BST on Wednesday, May 13, followed by a general ticket sale starting at 10:00 am BST on Friday, May 15.
