The Royal Albert Hall has unveiled plans for a historic cinematic event: the first-ever Star Wars Films in Concert Weekender. Scheduled to take place from Thursday, 29 April to Sunday, 2 May 2027, the residency will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary franchise by screening the entire original trilogy with live orchestral accompaniment.

Fans will have the rare opportunity to experience Episode IV: A New Hope, Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back, and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in succession. In a massive coup for the venue, the films will be scored live by the London Symphony Orchestra (LSO)—the very ensemble that recorded the original soundtracks under the baton of John Williams.

The timing of the event is particularly significant, marking exactly half a century since George Lucas changed cinema forever with the 1977 release of A New Hope. The "Weekender" format follows the success of the Hall's sold-out Lord of the Rings series, offering a marathon experience for dedicated fans.

"John Williams’ score is such a significant part of the trilogy," said Matt Todd, Director of Programming at the Royal Albert Hall. "For attendees to see all three films with a live orchestra will be a truly memorable experience that captures what fans felt when they first entered a galaxy far, far away."

John Williams’ score is widely regarded as one of the most iconic in history. Sarah Quinn, LSO Chair, noted that the Star Wars "sound" has become synonymous with the orchestra since their first recording session at Anvil Studios. "The LSO carries the DNA of John Williams’ music in its blood," she added.

The Films in Concert series has become a staple of the Hall’s programming since 2009, previously hosting blockbusters like Jurassic Park and Skyfall. Tickets for the general public go on sale at 10am on Friday, 1 May 2026 via the official Royal Albert Hall website, with priority access for Friends and Patrons opening 24 hours earlier. Given the franchise's enduring popularity, fans are encouraged to act quickly to secure their place in Jedi history.
