UK artist Kwun releases his long-awaited debut album ‘Ancient Ageless & True’, an ambitious and deeply immersive body of work that brings together a wide spectrum of influences into one cohesive listening experience.
Spanning large-scale cinematic arrangements through to more intimate, stripped-back moments, as well as rhythm-driven, high-energy passages, the album moves fluidly across contrasting emotional and sonic landscapes. With its breadth, there is a strong sense of unity throughout, with each piece contributing to a wider arc.
Tracks such as the tender and introspective ‘Soft Animal’, described as “gorgeous” by Jamie Catto (Faithless, 1 Giant Leap), sit alongside the soul and gospel-influenced ‘Sovereignty’, the rhythm-driven energy of ‘Cuíca’, and the orchestral centrepiece ‘Interlude’, which unfolds as a pure cinematic moment within the album.
‘Ancient Ageless & True’ explores themes of transformation, presence and emotional honesty. Drawing from rock, soul, Americana, funk and beyond, Kwun’s music draws on a wide range of influences and ideas. As noted by Illustrate Magazine, his work is described as bringing “big philosophical ideas in music”.
Kwun explains: “The album is a way of expressing a wide range of influences and experiences and bringing them together into something unified. I wanted it to feel like a complete movement, a full journey, but also something where each track stands on its own.”
The album was developed across multiple locations, with early foundations laid in Glastonbury, UK, the visual world forming in Mexico, and the final stages of production completed over an extended period in India and Mexico. This process gives the album a sense of openness and depth that carries through the work.
Produced by Kwun, the album features musicians and engineers whose credits span artists such as Hans Zimmer, Amy Winehouse and Snarky Puppy. As with all of his work, the music is recorded and tuned to 432 Hz, a frequency believed to resonate more naturally with the human body and the natural world.
