Global icons BTS have shared a breathtaking visual prologue titled "‘???’(ARIRANG) Animation Trailer : What is your love song?" as they prepare for the release of their highly anticipated fifth studio album, ARIRANG. Released today on the band’s official YouTube channel, the animation serves as a bridge between Korea’s historical heritage and BTS’s modern-day global dominance.
A Journey Through Time and Sound
The film begins with animated renderings of RM, Jin, SUGA, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jung Kook gathered around a vintage gramophone. As the needle drops, the animation transports viewers back to 1896, tracing the odyssey of a ship crossing the Pacific. The story highlights a pivotal moment at Howard University in Washington, D.C., where the first known recording of the Korean folk song "Arirang" was made by Korean men sharing their culture with students.
"Arirang" traditionally sings of distance, longing, and the resilience to move forward—themes that the animation masterfully weaves into the band’s own narrative. The sequence fast-forwards to 2013, the year of BTS's debut, depicting their rise from humble beginnings to sold-out stadiums glowing with a sea of official light sticks.
"What is Your Love Song?"
The trailer concludes with a return to the present day, posing a soul-searching question to the audience: “When the world feels heavy, when your heart feels light, what is your love song?” This teaser follows a massive global "call-to-action" campaign involving large-scale installations in Seoul, New York City, and London. These activations underscore the album’s central message: a celebration of universal emotions and a firm declaration of the band’s identity—"Born in Korea, playing for the world."
