The worlds of high-octane motorsport and world-class artistry are set to converge as YOSHIKI—the legendary composer, pianist, and drummer—is confirmed to perform the Japanese national anthem, "Kimigayo," at the 2026 Formula 1 Aramco Japanese Grand Prix.
Taking place on Sunday, March 29, at the historic Suzuka Circuit, the performance will serve as the symbolic opening ceremony for one of the most prestigious events in the FIA Formula One World Championship. With over 200,000 spectators expected on-site and a global broadcast reaching more than 180 countries, YOSHIKI’s rendition will be witnessed by millions worldwide.
In a first-of-its-kind arrangement for a national anthem, YOSHIKI will utilize both piano and drums, showcasing the versatile musicality that has defined his career as the leader of X JAPAN. This performance carries significant personal weight, marking a triumphant return to the global stage following the artist's third surgery and a rigorous period of recovery.
"I am deeply honored to perform the national anthem at such a prestigious venue," YOSHIKI stated. "Following an extensive period of recovery, I am looking forward to delivering my full sound to the world. I hope to share a special moment of unity through music on this global stage."
Recently honored as the first Japanese artist in the TIME100 list of the world’s most influential people, YOSHIKI’s impact spans rock, classical music, and high fashion. From composing the Golden Globe Awards theme to debuting MAISON YOSHIKI PARIS at Paris Fashion Week, his influence is unparalleled. He remains the only Japanese artist to be immortalized with handprints at Hollywood’s TCL Chinese Theatre.
The Grand Prix performance serves as the ultimate prelude to his upcoming concert series, "YOSHIKI CLASSICAL 2026: Awakening Eve," held April 3–5 at the Tokyo Garden Theater. These shows kick off "Chapter One" of his 2026 world tour, signaling his official comeback to the classical stage.
