The global music landscape is bracing for a seismic shift as Grammy-winning powerhouse Diplo joins forces with BTS for their highly anticipated return album, ARIRANG. Set for release on March 20, the project marks a bold departure for the K-pop icons, with Diplo stepping in as Executive Producer alongside longtime BTS visionary Pdogg.
Diplo’s influence on the record is profound; he personally produced five tracks—"Body to Body," "FYA," "Like Animals," "One More Night," and "Into the Sun"—marking the highest number of production credits for any individual on the project. The collaboration traces back to late 2024, sparked by a direct request from HYBE Chairman Bang Si-hyuk.
"Bang and I first talked in November 2024," Diplo shares. "He was clear from the jump—they didn’t want a typical pop producer. They wanted someone who would take chances, someone who could help them build a project left of center and rebellious. I remember him saying, ‘Let’s do something revolutionary.’"
The resulting sound is a sophisticated evolution. Moving away from polished pop tropes, the sessions drew heavily from trip-hop and old-school hip-hop influences. Diplo brought in a "sick" roster of collaborators, including Flume, Jpegmafia, and writers from his own Bison Music Publishing (Picard Brothers, NITTI, and Leclair, who helmed the lead single "SWIM").
"The goal was to let BTS’ creativity shine and let them speak their stories as grown men," Diplo explains. "This project takes Korean music into the future. It proves they’re not just global stars—they’re a creative force to be reckoned with."
The ARIRANG announcement caps off a massive year for the artist born Thomas Wesley Pentz. Coming off a triumphant performance with Major Lazer at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Diplo is set for a landmark festival run including Coachella and Ultra. Between curating his "HonkyTonk" stage at Stagecoach and expanding his massive "Diplo’s Run Club," the producer continues to prove that his influence knows no genre—or industry—boundaries.
