Two decades after winning a "battle of the bands" to open V Festival as teenagers, Bombay Bicycle Club is returning to the small, independent stages that defined their early years. This month, the indie heavyweights will perform four intimate shows across London, playing back-to-back nights at The Camden Assembly and Nambucca in Archway.
These "tiny" shows represent a rare chance to see a band that now headlines festivals and sell-out arenas like Alexandra Palace in a grassroots setting.
In a treat for long-term fans, the band has confirmed that setlists for these performances will be formed exclusively from their earliest material. The shows will focus on the songs that sparked their initial 2005-2007 buzz, featuring tracks from their first EPs—The Boy I Used To Be and How We Are—alongside original singles and rare MySpace-era demos.
True to their roots, the band is using the run to spotlight emerging talent. Following a social media "battle of the bands" search for artists aged 18 and under, the band has selected two winners for support slots:
Tight Lines (performing 13–14 March at The Camden Assembly)
Call Me Animal (performing 20–21 March at Nambucca)
All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Universal Music UK Sound Foundation, a music education charity dedicated to helping children access instruments and lessons. Tickets are available via a £10 prize draw, with each winning entry receiving two tickets.
The club-scale shows serve as a precursor to the band’s massive headline set at London’s LIDO Festival on Sunday, 14 June. On that day, the band will perform twice: a special afternoon set featuring their acoustic second album Flaws in its entirety, followed by an evening set of their seminal debut I Had The Blues But I Shook Them Loose.
