The Great Escape has officially confirmed Melanie C and Ian Murray MP, Minister of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS), as the first keynote speakers for its 2026 conference. The event, which serves as a cornerstone for the European music sector, will take place in Brighton from 13th to 16th May 2026.
Marking both the 20th anniversary of the festival and 30 years since the Spice Girls first reshaped British pop, Melanie C will participate in a special keynote conversation. Celebrating the release of her new album, Sweat, she will sit down with DJ Jaguar in a session presented by the charity CALM. Reflecting on her career, Melanie C noted, "I’m excited to share what I’ve learned and how the industry has continued to evolve," from her stadium-touring days to her contemporary global DJ sets.
Ian Murray MP joins the live industry schedule to discuss his pivotal role in government policy regarding touring, broadcasting, and the night-time economy. Calling the festival a "vital event in the live music calendar," Murray's presence highlights the intersection of politics and the creative industries at this year's landmark 20th-anniversary edition.
Beyond the headlines, the conference will feature a high-level discussion from the Council of Music Makers. Experts from the Musicians’ Union, MMF, and the Ivors Academy will tackle urgent live-sector trends, including touring pressures and ticketing reform. Additionally, Rough Trade will celebrate its 50th anniversary at the event, while War Child joins as a new collaborator to discuss their upcoming HELP (2) record.
A wide array of industry trade partners, including Ticketmaster New Music and Virgin Music Group, will host live music showcases and networking brunches throughout the week. With delegate passes now available on the official festival website, the May event promises to be one of the most dynamic live gatherings for the UK music business to date.
