Some performances are captivating, others entertaining, others deeply emotional. I experienced all three as I attended the set of Hong Kong–born singer, actress, and classical composer Qymira, who supported global harmony group Collabro at an intimate yet grand show at London’s Cadogan Hall, as part of their thrilling UK Harmony Tour.
A musical triple threat, Qymira delivered a cinematic performance I won’t be forgetting anytime soon. She set the tone for the evening effortlessly, holding a sea of engaged audience members in rapt attention from the very first moment.
Emerging onto the blue-lit stage, the atmosphere immediately shifted as Qymira appeared in a flowing red-and-gold dress, framed by a row of flickering candles at the front of the stage. The visual alone exuded elegance and grandeur, offering a tantalising glimpse of what was to come.
Opening with three songs from her upcoming album ‘Labyrinth of Life’ - a powerful, cinematic body of work that will also soundtrack a forthcoming film - Qymira proved herself a force of nature. Across the alluring ‘This Is Me,’ ‘Time Heals,’ and ‘Sinking,’ she delivered a bewitching performance, underpinned by exceptional musical skill.
Leaning away from her pop stylings and returning to her classical roots, Qymira brought her performance vividly to life through soundtrack compositions. These pieces crafted an ethereal sense of drama, making her set feel less like a regular support slot and more like a theatrical production in its own right.
The most intimate moment arrived as the set transitioned into a completely stripped-back piano performance of ‘Drifting,’ an instrumental theme from the upcoming Pedro Lopez action feature film ‘Shadow Transit,’ in which Qymira stars in her breakout leading role as Celeste.
She continued to draw the audience deeper into her world as she closed the set with a breathtaking performance of ‘Shade of My Shadow,’ the evocative main theme from Shadow Transit. Reflecting the film’s themes of intensity, memory, and transformation -and her character’s journey in search of truth - the sweeping composition was brought thrillingly to life: grand and empowering, yet still perfectly intimate for a peaceful Sunday night.
