Denver’s Indigenous-fronted powerhouse, Dead Pioneers, have returned with their most confrontational work to date. This week, the band unveiled "Nazi Teeth," a blistering call to action that tackles the rise of far-right extremism and white supremacy head-on. The track serves as the lead single for their upcoming third album and marks a fierce collaboration with Stephanie Bryne of the feminist punk outfit Cheap Perfume.
"Keeping Nazis Down Keeps Us All Free"
"Nazi Teeth" is more than just a song; it is a visceral response to the current political climate. Frontman and acclaimed performance artist Gregg Deal explains the necessity of the track’s bluntness: “It’s not lost on us that the need to write a song like this... is grim and disconcerting. Nevertheless, here we are.”
Stephanie Bryne’s guest vocals reconnect with the sentiment of her band’s 2016 anthem, "It’s Okay To Punch Nazis." She describes the single as a mandate for community defense, stating, “Nazi Teeth is a call to action to hold the line... Keeping Nazis down keeps us all free.”
From Performance Art to Post-Punk Fury
Dead Pioneers—featuring Lee Tesche (Algiers) and Shane Zweygardt—evolved from Deal’s visual and performance art, which explores identity, colonization, and systemic marginalization. Their sound is a hypnotic blend of spoken word and post-punk energy, used as a platform for Indigenous reclamation and activism.
