Multi-talented artist Rita Wilson has announced the release of her sixth studio album, Sound of a Woman, arriving May 1st, 2026. Described as her most visionary and revealing work to date, the album marks a radical awakening for Wilson, who co-produced the project alongside nine-time Grammy winner Dave Cobb at Nashville’s historic RCA Studio A.
A Powerful First Look
The lead single and title track, "Sound of a Woman," is available now, accompanied by a cinematic music video directed by Steven Sebring. Co-written with industry powerhouse Amy Wadge (the pen behind Ed Sheeran’s "Thinking Out Loud"), the song is a sweeping masterclass in emotional storytelling.
Opening with majestic strings and a quiet, piano-driven intensity, the track eventually swells into a glorious crescendo backed by sublime gospel harmonies. For Wilson, the addition of a choir was essential. "Their voices represent all the people who’ve helped you get to a place of self-acceptance," she explains. "The idea is that all that power is available to you, and it can no longer be contained."
A Personal Awakening
The album serves as an unfiltered memoir, following the arc of a woman’s life through triumphs and unseen turning points. Wilson admits that the project comes from a place of newfound personal freedom.
"I’ve come to a stage in my life where I’m only now just finding my voice, both metaphorically and literally," Wilson says. "Many times, I’ve felt muted... finally, I asked myself, 'Does anyone actually know what I think or how I feel about anything?'"
Beyond the Music
While Wilson is a seasoned singer-songwriter with five previous albums and collaborations with icons like Willie Nelson and Smokey Robinson, her influence spans the entire entertainment industry. Fans can currently see her in the second season of "The Last Thing He Told Me" on Apple TV+ (debuting February 20th), and she remains the powerhouse producer behind the Mamma Mia! and My Big Fat Greek Wedding franchises.
