Pop icon and DJ Melanie C sat down with Rebecca Judd on Apple Music 1 this week for a wide-ranging interview, addressing the rumors surrounding a potential Spice Girls reunion and detailing how her burgeoning DJ career has shaped her upcoming solo album.

30 Years of Girl Power

With 2026 marking the 30th anniversary of the Spice Girls, the question of a reunion remains at the forefront of the cultural conversation. Melanie revealed that lines of communication remain wide open, particularly between herself, Emma Bunton, and Mel B.

"I think me and Mel B are the cheerleaders and Emma's totally with us," Melanie told Judd. "We’re all so proud of our legacy... but we're frightened to do it the wrong way. We are just waiting until we all decide on exactly the best way to do it." While discussions with Geri Halliwell and Victoria Beckham were not explicitly detailed, Melanie remains "always optimistic" about celebrating the milestone in a way that honors the group's massive impact.

From the Gym to the Club

The interview also highlighted Melanie’s latest creative project: the "Music That Moves Me" playlist on Apple Music. The high-energy mix features legends like The Prodigy alongside modern stars like Sammy Virji and Calvin Harris, reflecting the crossover between her life in the gym and her sets behind the decks.

This intersection of fitness and dance culture directly inspired her new single, "Sweat." Born from a fitness mix she curated for Apple Music last year, the track serves as a "strong introduction" to her forthcoming album. Produced alongside Theo Hutchcraft (Hurts) and the writing team Kingdoms, the track draws on the high-octane energy of '80s workout culture and '90s rave aesthetics.

A New Creative Direction

Melanie noted that DJing has fundamentally changed her approach to songwriting. "When you’re behind the decks, you instantly know what works," she explained. "I want my records to feel physical, energetic, and emotional in the same way the music I play out does."
