New Zealand-based artist OceaSand has officially released his latest single, “Is It All a Dream,” a track nearly thirty years in the making, presave here. Blending a chill, alternative atmosphere with a distinct touch of psychedelia, the song offers a "spacey" listening experience designed to transport audiences away from the polished sounds of mainstream radio.
A Thirty-Year Journey
The history of “Is It All a Dream” is a testament to the enduring power of a good hook. The lyrics were originally penned in 1995 as part of a prolific writing session that produced six sets of lyrics in just a few days. While a full production featuring a session singer was recorded six months later, the track was ultimately shelved as life took over.
For decades, the song remained a personal treasure, with the artist occasionally revisiting the recording. Now, empowered by the modern landscape of independent digital distribution, OceaSand has finally brought the track out of the archives for a global audience.
A Personal Vocal Debut
In a significant shift for the OceaSand project, which has previously utilized featured vocalists for its first four releases, “Is It All a Dream” features the artist’s own vocals.
"I had the idea of getting another featured singer to do this one as well," OceaSand explains. "But with the encouragement of friends, I attempted to put my vocals to it, and the results are fairly good."
Beyond the Mainstream
Rejecting the standard formulas of commercial pop, OceaSand is aiming for a deeper connection with his listeners. The track is built for those who appreciate an alternative edge and lyrics that invite a second look. By combining "spaced-out" psychedelic textures with a laid-back vibe, the single serves as a definitive introduction to what the OceaSand project represents.
With more material currently in development, “Is It All a Dream” marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the New Zealand musician.
