UK artist Kwun opens the new year with ‘Soft Animal’, his first single of 2026. Following the ecstatic instrumental journey of ‘Cuíca’, ‘Soft Animal’ is a track of rare sensitivity that reveals another facet of his sonic universe. Out 9 January 2026, the song leans into vulnerability and a grounded kind of strength.
Where his previous singles ‘Sovereignty’ channelled themes of collective transformation and ‘Cuíca’ explored rhythm and movement, ‘Soft Animal’ turns inward. It slows the pace and brings attention back into the body. The song offers reassurance without denying what sits underneath, creating space and reminding us of the ground beneath our feet.
Musically, ‘Soft Animal’ marks one of Kwun’s most intimate arrangements. A Wurlitzer piano anchors the song, while a lush, cinematic string arrangement lifts the track towards an emotive finale. The vocal is close and sincere, accompanied by layered harmonies that add warmth and depth throughout.
Produced by Kwun, the track features musicians and engineers whose work spans artists such as Hans Zimmer, Amy Winehouse and Snarky Puppy. The recording carries the same meticulous care and attention to detail as his previous releases. Like all of Kwun’s music, the track is recorded in 432 Hz, the frequency which is believed to resonate and harmonise with nature and the human body.
Two films accompany the release. The official music video interlaces footage of Kwun filmed in the backwaters and coastal terrain of Kerala, South India, with live performance footage filmed in London. The other is a black-and-white live performance video of ‘Soft Animal’, filmed in London.
