Wakefield trio The Cribs have released "Never The Same," the final preview of their ninth studio album, Selling A Vibe, which arrives this Friday, January 9. The track follows the radio success of previous singles "Summer Seizures" and "A Point Too Hard To Make," both of which secured A-list rotation on BBC Radio 6 Music.

A Focus on Efficiency

"Never The Same" marks a return to the concise songwriting that defined the band's early career. Guitarist and singer Ryan Jarman describes the track as a "throwback" to their original method of removing non-essential elements to create a more streamlined arrangement.

The song originated from a collaborative session following the band's appearance at Louis Tomlinson’s Away From Home festival in Italy. Initially intended for Tomlinson, the brothers decided to retain the track after it was completed in a matter of hours. Lyrically, the song addresses the disconnect between a person’s current life and the chaotic nature of their past.

Directorial Debut

The accompanying music video features Super 8mm footage captured by the band during their recent tour of the United States. Directed by Ryan and edited by bassist Gary Jarman, the visual aims to provide a candid, unvarnished look at life on the road, utilizing locations in San Diego and live concert clips.

Upcoming Tour Dates

The band commences a series of intimate in-store and out-store performances this Thursday, January 8, at Circuit in Kingston. This release-week run includes multiple sold-out dates at Rough Trade branches in London and Liverpool.

A full UK headline tour is scheduled to begin in March, featuring support from Courting. Several venues, including Manchester’s Albert Hall and Sheffield’s Foundry, have already reached capacity. The tour will conclude with a homecoming performance at Millennium Square in Leeds on July 11 as part of the Sounds of the City concert series.
