The legendary Gipsy Kings, led by founder and Grammy Award-winner Tonino Baliardo, are set to release their new album, Historia, on May 15th. The announcement follows their triumphant set at Glastonbury 2024, proving that nearly forty years after breaking the mold with their self-titled 1987 album, their electrifying music remains as vibrant as ever.
The new chapter begins with the release of the lead single, ‘Señorita,’ an instantly infectious track that encapsulates the classic Gipsy Kings sound. Tonino Baliardo's inimitable flamenco guitar work immediately sets a celebratory mood, underscored by a passionate baritone lead vocal and vigorous, sensual rhythms.
Baliardo shared his enthusiasm for the single, stating, “Music and dance are a fundamental part of Gipsy culture... It has been an idea for a few years to write a song with a strong rhythm and joyful chorus to capture those early wonderful memories of my youth. It fits perfectly into the ‘Historia’ album as it reflects the many influences and ideas on the new record.”
Historia promises to pulsate with the eclecticism that has defined the Gipsy Kings' success, which includes over 25 million album sales and two billion streams. The album features the boisterous exuberance of tracks like ‘El Campo’ and ‘Big Bang,’ balanced by the poignant ballad ‘La Guerra,’ which advocates for peace. Baliardo’s guitar prowess shines throughout, keeping the rich, passionate traditions of flamenco and Catalan gipsy culture very much alive.
The group's cultural impact—featuring on soundtracks for films like Toy Story 3 and The Big Lebowski—continues to grow. Looking ahead to 2026, Gipsy Kings featuring Tonino Baliardo are planning a major North American headline tour and the premiere of an eagerly anticipated documentary on Amazon Prime.
