Moments after finishing a vocal session in Los Angeles with Damon Sharpe, the Grammy and ASCAP award-winning producer known for his work with Jennifer Lopez, Ariana Grande, Alesso, and so many others, she learned that her then-partner had been critically injured in a major car accident back home in Dallas. The shock of that moment left a mark on her voice, her writing, and everything the song eventually became.
