In a world that often feels chaotic and unpredictable, NYC-based singer-songwriter and producer Rachael Sage and her band The Sequins offer a radiant musical escape with their new music video, “LIVE IT UP”.

Bursting with summery, upbeat piano-pop energy, the track is a heartfelt invitation to embrace joy, connection, and hope. With lyrics that nudge listeners away from the stress of the news cycle and toward equality and understanding, the song showcases Sage’s signature keyboard virtuosity with a full, vibrant arrangement reminiscent of Mika, Elton John, and Sara Bareilles. Produced by Sage and mixed by Grammy® nominee Mikhail Pivovarov, “LIVE IT UP” feels like a warm, musical hug.

The video was inspired by one of Sage’s all-time favorite VH-1 classics, Dionne Farris’ “I Know”, known for its bright, high-contrast palette and infectious band energy. Sage says, “For our shoot, we sussed out a pretty raw, expansive loft/rehearsal space in Brooklyn and I basically encouraged my bandmates in The Sequins to show up and walk in like it was a typical rehearsal, knowing they’d be filmed like docu-style, and to embrace that naturalism for the whole day - including us greeting each other and generally leaning into our band chemistry. Right before we filmed, I had also just seen the brilliant Broadway production of ‘The Picture Of Dorian Gray’ which used the device of spotlighting the camera crew, shamelessly breaking that fourth wall in a very organic way…so throughout our video you’ll catch glimpses of our director/cinematographer Mike Flanagan scurrying by, which I love!”

“LIVE IT UP” is a celebration of musical abundance and joyous collaboration. The lyrics encourage togetherness and hope: “I could be the if and you could be the and / I could be the one to help you understand there / Ain’t no way to heaven til we get there all equal / So live it up with me…live it up with me.”

Speaking on the track, Rachael shared, “With “LIVE IT UP” I endeavored to write a neo-classic pop-rock tune with a positive, hopeful message, as a musical antidote for these tumultuous and divisive times. I also wanted it to have the widest dynamics on my album Canopy, and a feel-good, uplifting 70’s-reminiscent sound encompassing the themes of inclusivity, love and acceptance.”

Since founding her own label, MPress Records, Sage has released a string of vibrant, dynamic albums and toured with an eclectic mix of artists including Rufus Wainwright, Ani DiFranco, Beth Hart, Howard Jones, and Grammy® winners Shawn Colvin and Judy Collins. A six-time Independent Music Award-winning artist, John Lennon Contest Grand Prize winner, former New York City Ballet dancer, and visual artist, Sage has performed globally from SXSW to the Edinburgh Fringe with her band The Sequins. A philanthropic advocate and self-described “cancer thriver,” she has raised funds for causes ranging from Foundation For Women’s Cancer to WHY Hunger. Her recent album Character featured the Billboard-charting single Blue Sky Days, and her forthcoming album Canopy is due October 24th 2025.
