Multi-Platinum, GRAMMY, and Oscar-winning artist and songwriter Sam Smith celebrated the launch of their highly anticipated residency, “To Be Free: New York City,” on Wednesday, October 15th, at Brooklyn’s historic Warsaw venue.
The residency offers fans a unique opportunity to experience Sam’s powerful vocals and emotive presence in a rare, up-close and intimate setting. Due to overwhelming demand, the original 12-date run sold out instantly and has now been extended through December.
The intimate concerts follow the release of Sam’s new single, “To Be Free.” Praised by The New York Times and Rolling Stone for its vulnerability and bravery, the track is one of Sam's most critically acclaimed songs in years.
In a continuation of their long-standing creative relationship, Sam took the stage exclusively wearing custom looks from Vivienne Westwood, designed by Creative Director Andreas Kronthaler. The evening’s proceedings were launched with an opening set from breakout London-based singer-songwriter Sienna Spiro.
Beyond New York, Sam has also announced “To Be Free: San Francisco,” an eight-night residency starting February 10, 2026, at the Castro Theatre. This run will officially ring in the eagerly awaited reopening of the designated landmark in the heart of the city’s LGTBQ+ cultural epicenter.
With a catalog boasting over 56 billion career streams, hits like "Unholy," and two Guinness World Records, Sam Smith remains one of the most celebrated artists in recent musical history.
