A long-awaited musical meeting between two rock legends—Argentine icon Charly García and British superstar Sting—has finally arrived with the release of their new collaborative single, “In the City.”

Despite being born just three weeks apart in 1951, the paths of Carlos Alberto García (Sui Generis, Seru Giran) and Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (The Police) only truly crossed in 1988 at the Human Rights Now! Festival. Their latest communion took shape in February 2025, when they met backstage at Sting's concert in Buenos Aires.

García, known for his ability to make anything possible in his musical world, immediately envisioned the collaboration. He noted, “'In the City’ was a song that I had already written and that—in addition to being in English—I thought would be perfect for his voice in the chorus. I was excited to hear him on my song.”

Sting was equally enthusiastic about joining the track, saying, “It’s an honour to sing with Charly, so it was easy to do it with enthusiasm and from the heart. It was fun to arrange and combine the harmonies.”

The English-language track features Dominic Miller, a longtime member of Sting’s band, on guitar, adding another layer of deep musical connection. The mastering was handled by Ted Jensen, the same engineer behind García’s classic album Clics Modernos, guaranteeing a sense of continuity and exceptional sound quality.

The accompanying official video, filmed in Buenos Aires and New York, shows the two artists cruising the city streets separately by night. “In the City” is available now on all digital platforms and has been released as a special 7” vinyl.
