Acclaimed singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Bird (Janie Price) has released her evocative new single, “The Film,' via AWAL. The track serves as the first glimpse of her forthcoming EP, Strange As Folk, which continues her celebrated exploration into the ethereal meeting Americana and Indie Folk.

"The Film" is vintage Bird: haunting, hypnotic, and cinematic. It expertly captures the raw, unsettling tenderness that comes after heartbreak, conjuring a dreamlike atmosphere that drifts seamlessly between Folk and Americana. The single follows her lauded track “Sunny Days,” which was praised by AMERICANA UK for its "sweetest form of melancholy."

The song features an exceptional line-up of collaborators, including keyboardist Mikey Rowe (Oasis, Noel Gallagher’s Flying Birds), Grammy Award-winning guitarist Ilya Toshinsky, and arrangements by Sally Herbert (London Grammar).

Bird shared that the song was born out of profound homesickness during a strict COVID-19 lockdown in Tuscany, Italy. Lacking her usual studio gear, she recorded the initial demo vocal—a raw, emotional take that proved impossible to recreate. “The lead vocal on the final recording is actually the original one from that demo,” she revealed, adding that the emotion was specific to those “surreal times.” The final track also marks a personal milestone for Bird, as it features her playing the banjo for the first time on her own recording.

Following the single’s release, Bird held her official showcase at AmericanaFest 2025 in September at City Winery Lounge in Nashville. Fans in the UK also caught her on an in-store tour including a London show at Caffe Nero BBC World Cafe Broadcasting House after she was named Caffe Nero Artist of the Month for September.

The new EP, Strange As Folk, is the second of two EPs leading to a limited edition vinyl release in Spring 2026. It will feature the Bob Dylan cover “Lay Lady Lay” and the new track “Havana Garden,” showcasing her ability to weave complexity into accessible, deeply atmospheric soundscapes.

With “The Film,” Bird reaffirms her reputation as one of the UK’s most imaginative voices—an artist who effortlessly blends classical training, cinematic storytelling, and boundary-pushing genre-hopping.

New single, a cover of Bob Dylan’s Lay Lady Lay, is due out in November.
