Singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Victoria Canal has released an expanded version of her acclaimed debut album, Slowly, It Dawns (Extended), out today via Parlophone Records. Building on the success of the original January release, the deluxe digital edition features the new single "Body Behave," alongside a collection of exclusive live recordings that showcase the raw power of her stage presence.
Slowly, It Dawns was met with widespread critical praise earlier this year, with publications like The Guardian noting Canal's striking "candour" and NME calling her songwriting "compelling and moving." The album explores themes of self-awareness and the complexities of life in one’s twenties through a dynamic mix of "hedonistic pop songs and regretful ballads."
The new single, "Body Behave," is a deeply personal track about the physical and emotional challenges of intimacy, especially when navigating past trauma. Canal explains that the song is about “exclaiming that someday, my body will allow me to feel the pleasure it deserves.” She brings levity to a difficult subject, making it relatable to anyone who has felt a disconnect between their mind's desire and their body's reaction.
The Extended edition also invites listeners into the touring experience, featuring live versions of fan favorites like "Hollow," "Vauxhall," and "15%." Canal highlighted that she loved exploring the songs through different variations on the road—from solo acoustic to full band and strings. The collection even includes a live recording of the unreleased fan-favourite "Pseudo Zen Buddhist: A Screenplay," complete with a special "storytime" introduction from Canal.
Following a highly successful year that included a US TV debut and a tour with Lucius, Victoria Canal is returning to London for a special "night of songs and stories" at Bush Hall next Friday, October 10th.
