Rock veterans Placebo have released a definitive new four-disc collection, This Search For Meaning, out now via SO Recordings. This deluxe set not only features the band’s acclaimed documentary but also bundles live material and their latest studio album, complete with bonus tracks.
The six-panel digipak is a comprehensive package for fans. It includes the Scottish award-winning documentary This Search For Meaning on both Blu-ray and DVD. Accompanying the film are two audio CDs: the live album This Is What You Wanted - Live In Mexico City, and a special edition of their latest studio effort, Never Let Me Go, which includes their notable cover of the Tears For Fears hit, “Shout.”
Directed by Oscar Sansom, the documentary is an intimate and enlightening film that delves into the ideas and subjects that inform Placebo’s lyrics. It charts their evolution both as a group and as individuals, offering a fearless and truthful exploration of the creative process and the rock 'n' roll lifestyle. The narrative is structured around new, visually stunning performances of songs from Never Let Me Go, captured at the legendary Twickenham Film Studios, including the track “Surrounded By Spies.”
Interviews with band members Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal are interwoven with contributions from significant figures across the music world who have been inspired by Placebo, including Shirley Manson (Garbage), Robbie Williams, Yungblud, and Joe Talbot (IDLES). The film also features exclusive, never-before-seen archive material spanning their entire career, highlighting their creative and personal collaboration with the late David Bowie.
The collection is completed by the Live In Mexico City audio, which captures the band’s dynamic 2023 performance in front of a massive crowd while touring in support of Never Let Me Go, a tour that saw them play to over 1.5 million fans worldwide.
