A new tribute album, Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead, will be released on October 31st, celebrating the enduring legacy of the legendary band. The collection features 14 of the world’s top punk acts covering their favorite Motörhead songs, including contributions from renowned bands like Rancid, Pennywise, and The Bronx.
While Motörhead’s immense influence on heavy metal is well-known, this album shines a light on their deep connection to the punk rock scene. As the album’s announcement notes, there was a time when metal and punk were often at odds, but Motörhead was a rare exception—a band both camps could rally behind.
The album's title, a clever play on Motörhead's classic Killed By Death, perfectly captures this shared heritage. Frontman Lemmy Kilmister once said, "The punks loved us. The only reason we weren’t in that lot was because we had long hair… But a lot of kids heard us without seeing a picture, so they thought we were a punk band."
This tribute is a testament to that powerful connection. The tracklist includes ferocious covers from a diverse lineup, with established names like GBH and FEAR alongside rising acts like Slaughterhouse, a nod to Motörhead’s history of championing underdogs.
The album also features a monumental, previously unreleased collaboration: a scorching version of The Damned's classic "Neat, Neat, Neat," performed by Motörhead and The Damned themselves. This track, recorded in 2002, is a fitting centerpiece, highlighting Lemmy’s own history of joining forces with the punk pioneers.
Killed By Deaf – A Punk Tribute To Motörhead is a testament to the band’s raw power and genre-defying spirit. It serves as a reminder that Motörhead wasn’t just a metal band—they were, at their core, a punk band too. The album will be available on LP, CD, and digital formats.
