Everything But The Girl, the beloved UK duo of Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, will release their new definitive compilation, The Best of Everything But The Girl, on November 14th via Buzzin’ Fly/Chrysalis. The 16-track collection, spanning over 40 years of their pioneering career, is now available for pre-order on CD and double gatefold vinyl.
This new compilation is a meticulously curated journey through the duo’s diverse sound, from their early indie roots to their influential electronica. “We always liked albums that had a fast side and a slow side,” Thorn said, explaining the unique tracklist. “We thought we’d start with the bangers and wind down with the ballads.”
The album kicks off with their biggest dance hits, including Todd Terry’s chart-topping remix of “Missing” and the dubby breakbeat of “Walking Wounded,” before moving back in time through their discography. “It gives you a sense of clubland back to bedsit,” Ben Watt added, “a journey that to us feels very real.”
From their early indie jazz-folk classic “Night and Day” to the contemporary electronica of their acclaimed 2023 album, Fuse, the compilation showcases the duo’s seamless evolution. It includes fan favorites like their timeless cover of Danny Whitten’s “I Don’t Want To Talk About It,” the uplifting “The Only Living Boy In New York,” and the shimmering “Nothing Left To Lose” from their recent return.
The duo’s career has been marked by both critical acclaim and commercial success, including their platinum-selling album Walking Wounded and a career-best UK Album Chart position with Fuse. This new compilation offers both longtime fans and new listeners a comprehensive look at the remarkable legacy of one of music's most enduring and innovative acts.
