The Official Folk Albums Chart has revealed its top-selling and most-streamed folk albums for August 2025, and Brighton-based four-piece The New Eves have claimed the No. 1 spot with their debut album, The New Eve Is Rising. Released on Transgressive Records, the album is described as distilling the band’s "visceral energy" and "primal rock'n'roll" into a compelling and immersive recording.
Six new releases made their mark on this month's chart, highlighting the vibrant and diverse state of UK and Irish folk music.
Coming in at No. 6 is Yoshika Colwell with her debut, On The Wing. The album, praised by BBC 6Music and The Line of Best Fit, is a deeply personal project for the artist. Colwell describes it as "a shrine to all of the pivotal experiences that shaped me during my twenties," created through a "ritualistic" process of letting go.
West Country folk-punk artist Gaz Brookfield lands at No. 8 with his tenth studio album, Waiting For Wisdom. The record sees Brookfield navigate the complexities of his mid-forties with his signature blend of wit and cynicism, tackling life's idiosyncrasies with a wry smile.
Scottish folk-rock band Skerryvore debuts at No. 9 with Skerryvore XX - Live At Floors Castle. The live album captures the energy of their 20th-anniversary show, a performance the band's frontman, Alec Dalglish, called the "gig of a lifetime."
Rounding out the new entries are The Swaps at No. 22 with their stripped-back acoustic album Fast Train, and the duo Spafford Campbell at No. 23 with their "trailblazing" instrumental debut, Tomorrow Held. The chart, produced by English Folk Expo, is announced monthly, with the full list available on the Official Folk Albums Chart Show.
