Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats are commemorating the tenth anniversary of their acclaimed self-titled debut album with a special reissue, set for release on October 10. This celebratory edition will include a full album's worth of previously unreleased demo recordings, offering fans a rare glimpse into the creative spark that ignited the band's distinctive sound. The first of these, 'A Little More Too (Demo)', is available to stream now.
Released in 2015, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats marked a pivotal turn in Rateliff's career. After years as a folk singer-songwriter, he was reportedly considering a return to gardening when a new musical direction emerged, blending a raw, Stax-style R&B with robust roots rock. This experimentation, initially recorded as demos in his attic, culminated in the gold-selling album. It spawned hits like 'I Need Never Get Old', 'Look it Here', 'Wasting Time', and the two-times platinum 'S.O.B.', launching the band into national prominence with appearances on The Tonight Show and Saturday Night Live.
Reflecting on the unearthed demos, Rateliff shared, "Here are eleven unheard ideas that started in my attic a little over ten years ago... I thought I was going to make the last record of my career. Instead, it was the start of a new life." The reissue also pays tribute to the album's late producer, Richard Swift, whose enduring influence Rateliff acknowledges.
The band's journey since their breakout has included touring with icons like Paul Simon, Bob Dylan, and Willie Nelson, playing increasingly larger venues, and headlining their beloved Red Rocks, culminating in a sold-out show at Madison Square Garden this year, where Jimmy Fallon made a surprise appearance to perform 'S.O.B.' with the band.
In addition to the reissue, Nathaniel Rateliff & The Night Sweats have announced a new series of U.S. tour dates and festival appearances this autumn, including Farm Aid and Outlaw Music Festival. Rateliff will also join Mumford & Sons for select dates on their 'Mumford & Sons And Friends Tour.'
Further solidifying their impact, Rateliff and the band recently received nominations at the 2025 Americana Awards for Album of the Year for their latest full-length, South of Here, and Song of the Year for 'Heartless.' South of Here has already seen two tracks, 'Heartless' and 'Call Me (Whatever You Like)', hit #1 on the Adult Alternative Chart.
Separately, Rateliff has been appointed the first Newport Folk Steward since Pete Seeger, a role he will dedicate to artist advocacy and mentorship.
