The film takes audiences on a journey from Seoul to Los Angeles, Texas to Mexico City, exploring the diverse and deeply committed fans who have propelled 21st-century pop icons BTS to global superstardom.
The documentary challenges stereotypes, revealing ARMY as an intergenerational, culturally savvy, and socially active movement. It captures the powerful spirit of activism and collective action, from fans organizing to dominate charts to a dance instructor in Seoul teaching BTS choreography. "There is no BTS without ARMY and no ARMY without BTS," stated co-directors Grace Lee and Patty Ahn. "We were constantly moved by the fans’ power, resilience, creativity and humor and hope audiences will be too."
"Forever We Are Young" is notably "BY ARMY FOR ARMY," centering on the fans themselves and celebrating their creativity, resilience, and profound emotional connection to the group. Beyond fandom, the film delves into universal themes of belonging, identity, and self-love. Executive produced by Oscar® winner Morgan Neville, the film had its world premiere at the 2025 SXSW, earning sold-out audiences and standing ovations.
Kymberli Frueh, SVP of Content Acquisitions and Programming at Trafalgar Releasing, highlighted the significance: "The global impact of BTS is undeniable, not just as artists, but as a cultural movement. We are proud to bring this film to big screens across the globe to celebrate the impact of the fans themselves."
