David Sinclair Four return with a rousing new single, '[I Got] One Pair of Hands', released on all platforms on Friday 27 June. Rooted in heartland rock and flavoured with resilience, humour and a healthy dose of frustration, the track marks a bold new chapter for the band. Listen here.
Led by journalist-turned-frontman David Sinclair, DS4 bring a sharp lyrical eye and classic songwriting craft to bear on life’s ongoing challenges. "It's a song about pushing on when the odds are stacked," says Sinclair. "Doing what you can with what you’ve got – and not giving in."
The single is the band’s first release since their well-received 2023 track 'Turned Out Fine', and follows the momentum of their 2022 album Apropos Blues. Produced by Jack Sinclair (who also plays drums), it features Geoff Peel on lead guitar and Derek White on bass – a line-up that has become the group’s defining core.
David Sinclair Biography David Sinclair is a British rock musician, songwriter and bandleader. Since 2005, he has recorded and released six albums of original material – a body of work that reflects a long-haul commitment to the craft of songwriting and performance.
In 2011, his song 'Living Like a Yo-Yo' was produced by guitar great Robin Trower. It appeared on Sinclair’s third album, Take Me There, produced by Jordan Fish (of Bring Me The Horizon fame), with guest contributions from Paul Jones of the Blues Band and BBC Radio 2.
The 2015 release 4 (aka “the Yellow album”) was the first to feature the David Sinclair Four (DS4), and boasted guest appearances from Lorna Reid, Paul Jones, and reggae favourite Maxi Priest, whose seductive performance on Down By The Canal has proved particularly enduring.
Apropos Blues (2022) was named one of the Top 10 Albums of the Year by *Blues Matters* magazine. It marked a new phase in the group’s trajectory and set the stage for their current run of recordings and increasingly hard-hitting live shows.
The current line-up features Geoff Peel – blues brother, lead guitar genius, backing vocalist and co-songwriter, who has been with the band since 2013; Derek White – the hardest-working bass player in the south of England, first heard with DS4 on the Sweet Georgina album of 2018; and Jack Sinclair – drummer, backing vocalist, producer, former Sarm Studios engineer and World Series of Poker champion.
Also on call is harmonica legend Laurie Garman – the fifth member of the Four – a free radical whose playing gives the sound an existential blues jolt on live favourites like *World Turns Around* and the jam-band workout of the title track of *Apropos Blues*.
Alongside his musical output, Sinclair is known for his parallel career as a journalist and author. A former rock critic for *The Times of London*, he has written for *Rolling Stone*, *Classic Rock*, *Billboard* and many more. But it’s on stage – with guitar in hand – that he now does his sharpest storytelling.
