The Dears announce first new music in five years, plus tour dates
17 June 2025
Beloved Canadian indie-rock outfit The Dears have officially signed with Next Door Records, home to artists like The Weather Station and Yves Jarvis. To mark the exciting new partnership, the band has released their first new music since 2020's Lovers Rock – a compelling new single titled "Babe, We’ll Find A Way."
The track, available now for streaming and accompanied by a lyric video, showcases the band's signature blend of orchestral dark pop. Lead singer and guitarist Murray Lightburn shared insights into the song's genesis, revealing, "The music came down all at once, strings, guitar – melodies. It was so strong and vivid. It pines for the breakthrough, we know it’s there! It’s so tangible. When that happens, inner strength takes over. There’s a motivation, a reason to get out of bed. You can feel the sun on your face and maybe a little later a smile will take over."
Formed in 1995, The Dears quickly established themselves as a cornerstone of the burgeoning Canadian indie scene with their dramatic live shows and distinctive sound. Their critically acclaimed 2003 album, No Cities Left, propelled them to international recognition, followed by a string of successful releases and extensive global touring, including appearances at major festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella.
In related news, Murray Lightburn recently received a 2025 Canadian Screen Award for Best Original Music in a Documentary for his work on Any Other Way: The Jackie Shane Story.
